How to win an argument against a Labourite
We all know that Labour members are famous for their hypocrisy, double-standards, feigning piety and righteousness. So how can you argue with someone who has deliberately and consciously blocked out their record of government and refuses to deny any wrongdoings? Well you can start by dropping these little facts into an argument:
Government savings (or nasty Tory cuts)
- Ed Balls (26 September 2011) “No matter how much we dislike particular Tory spending cuts or tax rises, we can’t make promises now to reverse them. I’m clear that I won’t do that and neither will any of my Shadow Cabinet colleagues.”
Tuition Fees
- Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998: Blair introduces tuition fees.
- 2001 Labour manifesto: “we will not introduce top-up fees.”
- Higher Education Act 2004: tuition fees now up to £3000
- Current Labour policy: £6000
EMA
Youth unemployment
Privatisation of the public sector
NHS
- Chancellor Darling’s pre-budget report of 2009 spells out a real term NHS budget cut for 2011/12
- Labour are cutting the NHS in Wales
- Labour’s Andy Burnham: “It is irresponsible to increase NHS spending in real terms”
NHS privatisation
- Blair converted NHS Trusts into independent Foundation Trusts
- Blair introduced ISTCs (Independent Sector Treatment Centres – private treatment centres paid by public funds irrespective of the number of patients treated)
- Blair privatised NHS Logistsics to DHL for £22 billion
- Private company Carillion deliver support services in the NHS after winning a £1.6 billion contract from Labour in 2009
Top rate of tax
- For 12 years and 11 months of Labour, the top rate of tax was 40p
- From April 2013 it will be 45p
- The top rate of tax in Communist China is LOWER than it currently is in the UK. (PRC -45p, UK – 50p)
