House of Lords Reform
I can confirm that the Government has dropped their Programme Motion for Lords reform in an announcement made by Sir George Young, Leader of the House, at the beginning of the second day of the Second Reading of the House of Lords Reform Bill.
However, it is believed that the Bill will now be given its Second Reading thanks to the Lib Dems and the support of the Labour Party. Now that the Programme Motion has been withdrawn, some of the rebels may feel that they are able to vote for the Second Reading because they support the principle of Lords Reform, just not in the form envisaged by Nick Clegg.
