CF In Downing Street
Last night saw the culmination of a fantastic change in the fortunes of the Conservative Future. It has grown from being an organisation deemed a risk to the parties to credibility to one which in the Prime Ministers own words “Can be welcomed into Downing Street”.
On an otherwise rather dreary Monday Conservative Future activists from Hertfordshire to Northern Ireland packed into Downing Street – well after the obligatory stroke of Larry that is. In an event that would have been unimaginable two years ago the Conservative Party has shown it holds the CF in high regard and respects and acknowledges the very hard work put in by activists.
The event helps to demonstrate what is for me one of the core aspects of the Conservative message – aspiration, hard work and reward. CFers aspire for a chance to meet the politicians they follow endlessly, they work as hard as they can in elections across the country and then they are rewarded in the form of events such a this.
It is a model and lesson that can be learnt across the country. Anyone can aspire for anything, the only limit is yourself. Everyone must be prepared to work hard to achieve what they want and on those flip side the rewards must be there when they do.
The Conservative Future has had a hard time but this event has shown that one of its core functions is ability to be a fantastic social group helping too create new friendship that will last for a long time. After a particularly long and hard stint of canvassing and leafleting activists deserve a short break off before the police and crime commissioner elections this November.
So for CF then it seems the only way is up! Same time next year Dave?
