Following last nights assault by former Labour MP Eirc Joyce on Stuart Andrew MP a Facebook event is advertising the “First Annual “Stuart Andrew MP Fanclub” Outing To Falkirk”. Mr Joyce who remains an MP but no longer holds the Labour whip after last nights incident has a chequered history including quitting as parliamentary private secretary to defence secretary Bob Ainsworth due to concerns of the war in Afghanistan in 2009 and a year later resigning as shadow secretary of state for Northern Ireland for pleading guilty to failing to provide a breath test.

Speaking in the Commons after news of Mr Joyce’s arrest, Speaker John Bercow said: ”Members will be aware of reports of a serious incident in the House last night. I have been informed by the Serjeant at Arms that the honourable member for Falkirk has been detained in police custody. The matter is being investigated. I take this matter very seriously, as do the House authorities. I would ask that no further reference should be made to these reports in the chamber today.”
